ABOUT CHILDREN OF THE RAINBOW

For over 25 years, Children of the Rainbow has proudly served families in Logan Heights, Stockton, Grant Hill, and Downtown San Diego building trusted relationships rooted in care, education, and community.

We believe that the early years are the foundation for lifelong success. That’s why we focus on creating a safe, secure, and nurturing environment where children feel confident to explore, ask questions, build relationships and discover their unique potential.

Our programs are designed to spark curiosity, encourage creativity, and support healthy emotional and social development. Guided by experienced, dedicated educators, children are given the tools and encouragement they need to develop a strong love for learning from the very beginning.

We believe in nurturing the whole child, mind, body, and spirit, through creative learning and compassionate care.

Our Mission & Approach

Safe & Supportive Care

To provide a safe, secure, and nurturing environment where children feel valued, protected, and confident to explore their world every day.

Learning Through Curiosity

To inspire a lifelong love for learning by encouraging curiosity, creativity, and hands-on exploration during the most important early years.

Strong Families & Community

To support families and strengthen our communities by delivering affordable, high-quality early childhood education with care, respect, and inclusivity.

Our Curriculum Approach

Our staff is trained in Creative Curriculum, a research-based approach that supports responsive care and play-based learning tailored to each child’s developmental needs.

Arts & Creativity

Through music, drawing, painting, and hands-on creative activities, children are encouraged to express themselves freely while developing imagination, confidence, and fine motor skills essential for early learning.

STEM Exploration

We introduce simple math concepts, age-appropriate science experiments, and nature-based discovery to spark curiosity, strengthen problem-solving skills, and build a foundation for logical thinking.

Cultural Experiences

We celebrate diversity by introducing children to stories, foods, traditions, and customs from different cultures—helping them develop respect, awareness, and appreciation for the world around them.

Social-Emotional Learning

Through guided play and positive interactions, children learn empathy, cooperation, self-expression, and emotional awareness—supporting healthy relationships and strong emotional development.

We provide more than supervision. Our programs combine quality early education, nurturing care, and meaningful learning experiences that support the whole child.

Our Story

Founded by Gale Walker, Children of the Rainbow was created with a simple yet powerful belief: every child deserves a safe, loving, and enriching environment where they can learn, grow, and feel valued, regardless of background or circumstance.

Our founder envisioned more than just childcare. Her goal was to build a community-centered early education program that supports families, celebrates diversity, and nurtures each child’s natural curiosity and potential.

This vision continues to guide everything we do, from our curriculum and classroom environments to the way we partner with families and serve our communities.

Today, that same vision lives on in every Children of the Rainbow school, shaping confident learners, strong families, and inclusive communities for generations to come.
